How to Use a THC Vape
A comprehensive guide for beginners and experienced users.
1. Choosing Your Device
There are two main categories of THC vapes:
- Disposable Vapes: All-in-one units that come pre-charged and pre-filled. You simply use them until they are empty and then dispose of them. Best for beginners.
- Cartridges (Carts): Glass or plastic tanks pre-filled with oil that screw onto a separate, rechargeable 510-thread battery. Best for regular users.
2. Activation
Depending on your device, activation will be one of two ways:
- Draw-Activated: Simply inhale through the mouthpiece. The device senses the airflow and automatically heats the oil.
- Button-Activated: Usually requires 5 rapid clicks to turn the device on. Once on, press and hold the button while inhaling.
3. The Inhalation Technique
Unlike smoking a joint, vaping requires a gentle, steady draw:
- Put your lips around the mouthpiece.
- Inhale slowly and steadily for 2 to 4 seconds. Pull the vapour into your lungs.
- Exhale smoothly. There is no need to hold the vapour in your lungs for a long time; THC absorbs almost instantly.
4. Dosing Safely
If you are new to vaping THC, follow the golden rule: start low and go slow.
Take one 3-second draw and wait 10 to 15 minutes. Vape effects are usually felt within minutes, but giving it time ensures you don't consume more than you are comfortable with.
5. Device Maintenance
- Keep it upright: Store your vape pen vertically to prevent the oil from pooling near the mouthpiece, which causes clogs.
- Keep it cool: Do not leave your vape in a hot car or direct sunlight. Heat degrades THC and causes cartridges to leak.
- Unclogging: If the device gets clogged, try taking strong, dry pulls without activating the battery to clear the airway.
